ラファエラ氏は、４月20日（月）から５月１日（金）まで、海の博物館にてアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（芸術家に制作できる場を提供し、その成果を公開イベントや展示する）を行い、このレジデンス期間中に、鳥羽志摩の海女４人と対話し、海女たちの物語を語ってもらい、その言葉を記録しました。

その成果をラファエラ氏の研究に基づき５月１日（金）のレクチャーパフォーマンスにて紹介します。

また彼女がこれまで研究してきた海女さんの口承伝承、日本の養殖真珠の歴史、バーレーンの真珠漁にまつわる歌について、今回の成果とともにギャラリーにて５月２日（土）から展示を行います。

This lecture performance unfolds Raffaella Crispino’s ongoing research on Japanese Ama women divers, pearls, Bahraini pearl-diving songs, and the ways women’s narratives, oral transmission, and shared knowledge shape these practices. Presented through a book composed of nested sheets, the work invites the audience to move through layers of stories, materials, and observations, tracing interwoven historical and symbolic connections across time, places, and practices.

“P.e.e.a.r.l.e.s.s.”

視覚的にも聴覚的にも、真珠、コミュニティ、不在、そして唯一無二の感覚――他に類を見ない何か――を連想させる、ラファエラ氏が考案した言葉遊びです。

The title “P.e.e.a.r.l.e.s.s.” is an invented wordplay that, both visually and orally, evokes the pearl, the community, absence, and a sense of uniqueness—something without equal.
